50 years ago (1962)
Larry Joe Phelps, son of Mr. and Mrs. Shirly Phelps, 5820 Lowell Road, was home on leave after having served the past year with the Navy at San Clemente Island, 60 miles off San Diego, Calif. On returning to duty Phelps would be assigned to the Naval Station at Guam.
Cascade High School dramatists were presenting the story of Noah and his Ark, as related in the Old Testament, but with modern variations. Included in the cast were Bill Lein as Japhet, Ron Rathbun as Shem, Lon Cook as Ham, Christine Berg as Ada, Nancy Thompson as Sella, and Carol Dart as Norma.
25 years ago (1987)
Janet Tuininga Rogers had been hired by the San Francisco Ballet Association in public relations work. Her brother, Verne Tuininga, was an IBM planning administrator at Bethesda, Md. Parents of the former Everett residents were Florence Grad Voeller and Orin Tuininga.
Everett’s Army Reserve unit, the 92nd Transportation Co., commanded by Maj. Lundsford M. Smith, was one of three 6th Army units to win the Army Chief of Staff Award for Maintenance Excellence recently. The unit’s first place award was for heavy maintenance work.
