Lunchrooms at all of Everett’s schools would be in operation the first day of school, Sept. 4, according to George Hill, district director of the school lunch program. Elementary students would continue to pay 30 cents for a plate lunch while junior and senior high students would again pay 35 cents.

Popp’s Dry Cleaners at 1409 Hewitt Ave., was having a back-to-school sweater dry-cleaning special: only 49 cents for a plain sweater. Popp’s also bought old American and Canadian coins, anything from pennies to gold.

The county auditor’s office was beating the bushes for people who wanted to make a few extra dollars as pool workers in this year’s primary and general elections. The work involved signing up voters, showing them where to vote and collecting ballots. Those interested could contact Mary Jorgensen, Pat Perry or Donna Kane at the office.

Baseball players Dan Wruble of Everett, Sean Hill of Edmonds and Kris Girard of Lake Stevens were named to the Northwest All-Star team which would play the United States East All-Stars in a two-game series at Heidelberg Park in Tacoma.
