50 years ago (1962)
The Emerson-Pinehurst-Beverly Park areas formerly entered the city this morning and unofficially pushed Everett’s population over the 50,000 mark. Celebrating were Mayor George Gebert, commissioners Mildred Simpson and Arvid Johnson, Pat Plymale of the Emerson area and Ruth Martin of Pinehurst.
The clearing of 60 acres of land for the first nine holes of the Kenwanda golf course on the Springhetti Hill south of Snohomish was well under way. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Harris of Rt. 2 Everett hoped their new course would eventually have 18 holes.
25 years ago (1987)
Bids to rebuild Everett Community College’s library, which was destroyed by arson in February, were opened and one of the bidders would be chosen for the job within a week. EvCC Bob Drewel said there was intense competition among the bidders. The new library would be named for firefighter Gary Parks, who lost his life in the blaze.
Everett Ski Shop had moved and was now located at 4312 Rucker Ave. across the street from the Totem Pole. There were rock bottom prices on water skis and swimwear. Layaways were available on skis, boots, clothing and more.
