50 years ago (1962)
Second graders at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School liked their teacher so well this spring that they established a “Teachers’ Day” and even wrote to President John F. Kennedy about it. Mrs. E. Killien was pictured with her students Cynthia Rodeen, Joni Charbonneau, Steven Meiers and Dale Thoemke.
A drive began this week to form a hospital district to build and operate the proposed Stevens Memorial Hospital in South County. Hospital administrator Robert Myers said the formation of the district would make it easier to finance the proposed 100-bed hospital.
25 years ago (1987)
Cascade Plaza at 76th St. and Evergreen Way started a three-day grand opening with a special welcome to Mervyn’s, Lipman’s and That’s My Baby. The public was invited to join the fun with special sales and events all weekend long.
Zion Lutheran School recognized the following students for academic achievement: Scott Coerber, Sara Gaeth, Micha Pickett, Teat Rainwater, Sara Eells, Julia Endicott, Sara Hawkins, Beth Kuehn, Erin McIntyre, Debbie Pellegrini, Heather Baerg, Jackie Baker, Mindi Boblett, Mae del Puerto, Galen Rainwater, Tracy Rosel, Theresa Stockton, Jennifer Walker, Tonja Bjerkan, Julie Berst, Dawn Pope and Michele Sesko.
