50 years ago (1962)
Miss Everett, Catherine Ramstad, was on her way south to Vancouver this afternoon to compete in the annual Miss Washington preliminaries. Her cats were an integral part of the Ramstad household. She was pictured holding “Pagliacci” while brother, Lewis, 14, held “Veronica.” She also had an older brother, David, 21.
Super Shingle Mill, the last operating mill on 14th Street, was being purchased by the Port of Everett. The port planned to raze the pioneer mill, dredge extensively in the area and build a large pleasure boat moorage area.
25 years ago (1987)
Bicycle Center at 4718 Evergreen Way was having a storewide sale with limited stock on hand. Prices ranged from $119.95 for a Sport Ten to $189.95 for a Sport Light. They carried Sterling, Nishiki, Peugeot and Trek.
Tom Dummihoo of the Western Vigilantes handed out buttons. This along with funny-faced clowns, marching bands and young women waving from floats was part of the formula for another successful Lynn-O-Rama parade. The final ingredient that helped make the event “awfully good,” in the words of one passer-by, was warm sunshine that burned away some early morning clouds leaving only blue skies.
