50 years ago (1962)
Joe Aschauer, 65, was retiring after 26 years at the Everett Darigold plant. Plant manager Marshel Buchanan presented him a wristwatch. Aschauer, who had been a driver-salesman in Pinehurst, also received luggage from the 95 drivers and their wives who attended a dinner in his honor at Frontier Village.
Karr’s Korral and Glacier Bowling Lanes in the 9600 and 9700 blocks of Evergreen Way (Highway 99 business route) offered a 1,000-car-parking lot for use during the Seattle World’s Fair. Greyhound buses made stops there.
25 years ago (1987)
Karen L. Pehrsson of Mukilteo, a 1984 Mariner High School graduate and junior at Washington State University, spent winter quarter at the University of London and was attending the University of Florence in Italy for spring quarter under an International Study Abroad program.
Carla Van Beek of Arlington was on her way to Honduras where she was to serve in a Youth Evangelism Service program sponsored by Eastern Mennonite Board of Missions of Salunga, Pa. A graduate of Arlington Christian High School, she would join five members of the YES team at an orphanage.
