50 years ago (1962)
Ernst Hardware Co., one of the best-known firms in the Pacific Northwest, opened its new Everett store at 4920 Evergreen Way this evening with a public invitation night. The official opening would be tomorrow. Ernst was located in the former Tradewell building. Everett Ernst-Malmo manager Howard Quigley was moving his wife and three children to Everett from Seattle.
Pvt. Buford Alexander, son of Kenneth Alexander, 2401 State St., was assigned to the 82 Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C. he entered the service last September and received his basic training at Fort Ord, Calif.
25 years ago (1987)
A new director was named to head Snohomish County’s Department of Planning and Community Development. County Executive Willis Tucker said that Jack Bilsborough was chosen for the position. Also Ernest Berg would be community development manager in the department.
Three local educators were among the recipients of the first annual Washington Award for Excellence in Education in Olympia. They were Ted Jansen, principal of Stanwood High School; Matthew Cadman, teacher at Lakewood High School; and Hjalmer Anderson, teacher at Woodinville High School.
