50 years ago (1962)
Work was under way on an expansion program for Chester Beard Shoes at 2716 Colby Ave. They were taking over space formerly occupied by Hagen’s Pharmacy. There also would be three show windows and a new entrance on the alley. Shoppers would be able to access the store from the parking lot across the alley.
Connie Mackey, Dean LeMay and Morlan Dearinger, all juniors at Granite Falls High School, planted trees and shrubs on the high school campus. The junior class teamed up with the Granville Grange, Lady Lions and the school district in an effort to beautify the grounds.
25 years ago (1987)
April Fool’s Day was behind us, but some remembered pranks of the past including cotton-filled chocolates manufactured for the special day in Everett by Holmes Homemade Candies, which was no longer on the local business scene.
Vern Luby, a former Everett resident now living in Hemet, Calif., celebrated his 75th birthday by taking his first hot air balloon ride. He reported that he had celebrated his 68th with a sailplane ride.
