50 years ago (1962)

Ideal dress-up costumes for high school students were judged in a contest here last week for student seamstresses sponsored by Laurel Heights Study Club. Taking first honors was Kathy Huson. Babara Anstis took second place and Marilyn Davis was third.

Invention of a water kart by John Moll, formerly of Arlington, was announced by Popular Science magazine. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Cy Moll of Lake Shoecraft, John now lived in Bellevue was an engineer with Boeing. His sweater kart was a sporty, scaled-down version of the big hydroplane racers.

25 years ago (1987)

Daphne Lewis, owner of the Bamboo Brokerage, was visiting with other gardening enthusiasts assembled at Legion Park in Everett. She said she always felt trepidation when people were dying to tell her how they killed the bamboo in their yards.
