50 years ago (1962)
Mary Ann Mason was new to the staff of Pilchuck Council of Camp Fire Girls, it was announced by Knut Kravik, president of the council. Mason and her daughter Kathryn would make their home in Everett. She was formerly employed by Camp Fire in the Yakima Valley.
Newly organized was the Fobes 4-H Club. Herb Somes was the adviser. Officers were Sheryl Westergreen, president; Roger Boyer, vice president; Susan White, secretary-treasurer; and Linda Boitano, representative.
25 years ago (1987)
Campeau Corp., which last week completed its $3.4 billion acquisition of Allied Stores Corp., would sell 16 Allied divisions and cut its store holdings by more than one half, but would retain ownership of The Bon chain of department stores. The Bon chain had outlets in downtown Everett and at the Everett and Alderwood malls.
With a dozen theaters and enough seats to accommodate the city of Stanwood, it was being billed as the largest discount theater complex in the world. Alderwood 12, now under construction at the Alderwood Village shopping center on 196th St., would show double bills of second-run movies in each of the 12 theaters.
