50 years ago (1962)

Work on the exterior of the Elks Home, being rebuilt by Shaffer Construction Co., was nearing completion. Workmen were working on beams that extended from the ground to the canopy along the front of the building, much of which was being given over to dining quarters with a sweeping view of the water. A considerable amount of glass would give diners plenty of light.

Shirley Elaine Heyman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick J. Heyman of Snohomish, was inducted into the Women Marines. Enlisted through the Everett Marine Recruiting Office, she was now stationed at Parris Island, S.C., for basic training.

25 years ago (1987)

At Kirkland, Cascade senior forward Michelle Sutt, playing in her second game this season, scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Bruins to a 56-50 nonleague girls’ basketball triumph over Lake Washington at Kirkland.

Color Tile at 7207 Evergreen Way was having all kinds of sales on tile, flooring and wall coverings. Color Tile also had stores in Lynnwood, Northgate, Bellevue, Renton, Burien, Federal Way, Tacoma, Olympia and Bremerton.
