50 years ago (1961)
When Everett Board of Realtors met in Alpine Cafeteria to wind up 1961, Educational Committee Chairman Eugene Smith gave a report as to the progress of the course to be offered by Everett Junior College in its winter quarter for licensees and affiliate members of the Everett Real Estate Board.
Rod Herman was elected president at a meeting of the Darrington Chamber of Commerce. Other new officers named to serve with him included Chet Williams, vice president, and board members Weir Lemmon, Sigil Bert, Dale Heigh and Lloyd Larson. In other business Emma Holiday reported on the business district Christmas decorations.
25 years ago (1986)
Mike Keene, a Pacific Lutheran senior from Everett, received an NAIA District 1 scholar-athlete award this fall for his role in the classroom and on the Lute soccer team. Keene, a chemistry major, had a 3.06 grade point average.
At Everett, senior guard Travis Mickelson scored 18 points to lead the Gulls in a 66-57 victory over Renton in their second non-conference win in two nights. Brett Jones added 17 points and Jeff Chandler 12 points for Everett, which spurted to a 10-0 lead and never trailed.
