50 years ago (1961)
North Junior PTA met recently and hear the Rev. Earl Anderson of Lake Stevens Ebenezer Lutheran Church speak on “Children Are People.” The Rev. Ivan Cleveland gave the invocation and a trombone trio from the school, made up of Kenneth Landgren, Dan Rupert and Gary Walseth, performed.
A quartet of Snohomish High School football players were singled out for top awards at the school’s football awards assembly yesterday. They were Larry Ward, inspirational and best tackler; Tom Rude, most thrilling play; Don Reiter, best blocker; and Dave Butler, captain.
25 years ago (1986)
Construction of a Group Health medical center on State Ave. in Marysville was delayed indefinitely because of efforts to cut costs. Group Health served 34,000 Snohomish County residents and operated medical centers in Everett and Lynnwood.
With visions of a new school in mind, the Monroe School District had put earnest money down on 50 acres near the intersection of Highway 522 and Echo Lake Rd. The site could be used for a high school, middle school or elementary school, according to Superintendent Ralph Bilbao.
