50 years ago (1961)
Jan Neumeister and Vern Benson exchanged nuptial promises earlier this month in ceremonies at Immaculate Conception Church officiated by The Rev. Michael O’Neil. Parents were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Neumeister and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Benson. Carol Ann Yelle was maid of honor and Russell Bassett was best man.
Hausmann’s Inc. Broadway Market at Hewitt and Broadway advertised that once again this year they were selling Thanksgiving turkeys of exceptional quality. Hens were $.49 a pound and toms were $.45 a pound. The birds were fresh — not frozen.
25 years ago (1986)
Wayne Kruse, Herald outdoor writer, dispelled some local rumors. He said the Oso Moose was a myth, there were no whitetail deer in the Sauk River drainage, elk herds were not to be found near Bryant nor Lake Cavanaugh, and finally, there were no alligators in Green Lake.
The Lake Stevens Clean Lake Association was taking shape as an outgrowth of concern over any pollution in the county’s largest lake. About 50 people attended a meeting where Joe Heinick was named acting chairman of the association. The group wanted a watershed management district.
