50 years ago (1961)
Helen Anderson was elected master of Priest Point Grange. Other new officers for 1962 were Fred Saunders, Alfred Schroeder, George Lee, Kenneth Clark, Beatrice Maertz, Emma Ryan, Ruth Saunders, Sylvanus Johnson, Eva MacAllister, Martha Myers, Rosa Schroeder, Alice Larson, Mae Pendleton, Almeda Mouton, James MacAllister and Borghild Houk.
Glen Shuler was elected president of the fifth Sunday Snohomish-Skagit Singing Convention for a period of one year, succeeding Walter Ashe of Darrington. Other officers elected were John Fox, choir director, and Wilma Fox, secretary-treasurer. The next convention would be held at Mount View Baptist Church in Darrington.
25 years ago (1986)
Jason Hull and Doug Caldart, both 14 and students at Immaculate Conception School, didn’t seem to mind doing yard work. On these crisp fall days the boys made raking the leaves seem like a festive event.
Restaurateurs and motorists along the Stevens Pass Highway could breathe more easily now with six major projects over the past two years completed. Carolyn Eslick, co-owner of the Dutch Cup restaurant in Sultan, said travelers frequently said it was all worth it because the road was so much nicer now.
