50 years ago (1961)
L.W. Trotter used the area over the front steps at his home at 2211 Cleveland Ave. as the site of a Nativity scene that caught the fancy of the judges in the Herald-PUD Outdoor Christmas Decoration Contest. Effective use of lighting, arrangement of figures in limited space and overall effectiveness were praised by the judges.
James R. Lanning of Lake Stevens was recently named Jaycee of the Month, mainly for his work as chairman of the Kiddies Parade Committee. A 1954 graduate of Everett High School, he was a sales representative for the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.
25 years ago (1986)
Major developments in Marysville in the past year included plans to develop a six-block area downtown, the demise of the largest annexation to date in the county, and increased development by the Tulalip Tribes including a water committee and the burning of garbage.
Big stories in Lynnwood in 1986 included the Lynnwood High Class of ‘86 raising $4,000 so Rochelle Cunningham could pay off a private school debt, the closing of the Sno-King drive-in — oldest in the county – and the closing of the 25-year-old Lynn Four Theater.
