50 years ago (1961)
Ted Muncaster, city superintendent of schools in Everett, made a generous offer to Don Gillette, chairman of the Trade Development Committee of Everett Chamber of Commerce, and it was accepted with appreciation. School was out for the holidays and downtown shoppers were welcome to use the 50 or so parking spaces at Jefferson School at Pacific and Hoyt avenues.
Everett’s newest motel, the Imperial 400, opened today with an open house. Located on the northwest corner of Highway 99 North and 10th Street, it had 35 units, an outdoor swimming pool and completely modern facilities. (The building lasted almost 50 years.)
25 years ago (1986)
Just two short years ago, adult shoppers stood in line to purchase puffy-faced dolls. But Cabbage Patch dolls were out now, according to Wendy Romppel, manager of the Toys Galore store at the Everett Mall. A good seller this year was Lazer Tag.
Reservations guaranteed a good time for New Year’s Eve at Gerry Andal’s Ranch on Everett Mall Way. For $20 a person, partygoers could enjoy baron of beef, salmon, champagne, party favors and buffet breakfast. And all the time they could dance to Gerry Andal and the Roughriders.
