50 years ago (1961)
The beginning of Christmas vacation marked the end of 12 years of service at the South Junior High School lunchroom for Barbara Bos and her retirement from the job. South’s principal Jim Hopkins and Bos looked over some of the food which was featured at her going away party.
Adolph Rygg, Everett manager of Foremost Dairies, was named district wholesale sales manager. His new duties involved all of Foremost’s area from Olympia to Wenatchee. Advancing to Rygg’s former position was Ray Sidley.
25 years ago (1986)
The bridges over the railroad at Hewitt, Oakes and Lombard avenues were recently closed temporarily and then reopened to restricted traffic after engineers reported in 1984 that they were unsafe. The city and the Burlington Northern had reached an agreement to replace them. Only the Broadway bridge was good enough to last awhile.
The Lynnwood library would be the first of the 18 Sno-Isle Regional libraries to be open on Sundays. The Edmonds library would follow suit in March. Libraries in Marysville, Snohomish and Oak Harbor would be open on Sundays in September. The Everett library, not part of the Sno-Isle system, was already open on Sundays.
