50 years ago (1961)
Watercolor paintings by Marjorie Duryee, local artist and photographer, were on display this month and next at Cuthbertson’s Gallery, 2936 Colby Ave. Titles were “Station Stop,” “Native Dance,” “Walk in the Park,” “The Wise Old Owl,” “The Bird” and “Coastal Storm.”
Snohomish attorney Frank Carr purchased the former West Coast Telephone Company office building in Snohomish and planned to remodel the interior for use as an office building. Carr expected to move into the new quarters after the first of the year. Handling the transaction was Earle R. Heifort, a Snohomish Realtor.
25 years ago (1986)
Snohomish County PUD, the nation’s 12th largest publicly owned utility district, was celebrating its 50th birthday this week at the regularly scheduled board of commissioners meeting. The district formed when county voters approved a measure to take over facilities run by privately owned Puget Sound Power and Light Co.
John Munn, Washington State University Extension naturalist, was giving the 14th annual salmon run tour at the Startup fish hatchery. Everett Parks and Recreation and the Pilchuck Audubon and 4-H Natural Resource Clubs sponsored the tour. Egg taking and fertilization were explained.
