50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Jan Neumeister, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Neumeister, was engaged to Vern Benson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Benson, all of Everett, announced her parents. Both were graduates of Everett High School, the bride-elect in 1960, and her fiance in 1959. She was attending Everett Business College and he was employed in Everett.
Clint Simmons and Bill Lucas rode their bicycles through a flooded section of 44th Avenue W. near Lynnwood. Heavy rains earlier this week washed over a block-long section of the road. Both boys lived on the thoroughfare.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
John Dean Dolquist, a Snohomish native and Vietnam veteran, was to assume command of an aviation squadron at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station next month. A 1981 Snohomish High School graduate, Dolquist was an outstanding student and athlete, according to his former track coach, Keith Gilbertson.
With all its size, the Cascade High School basketball team loomed as a big favorite for the season. Coach Charlie Cobb’s Bruins included 6-foot-8 center John Garrison, 6-foot-4 forward Steve Burns, and a host of other capable players.
