50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Patrolers Sue Schonearts and Bruce Carlson, seventh-graders at Madison, were practicing for the start of school tomorrow. New teachers at Emerson to greet students were Nancy Clayberg and Anna Brown, second grade; Diane Hall, third grade; Mary Gregoire and Carolyn Scheldrup, fourth grade; and Fred Boede, seventh grade.
Ernie Bailey and Greg Gustafson, both of Snohomish, took home FFA grand championship ribbons at the Evergreen State Fair, Bailey with his Hereford and Gustafson with his Angus. Both FFA and 4-H exhibits were termed outstanding at this year’s fair.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Physicians Eye Clinic was building an ambulatory surgical center adjacent to its clinic at 40th Street and Hoyt Avenue. It would be used exclusively by clinic ophthalmologists Drs. R. Hugh Minor, Roger A. Niva and Thomas W. Jones. Architect for the project was Robert W. Champion.
Robert Adrian, 1526 Hoyt Ave., displayed one of the many signs sprouting in north Everett urging the Navy to choose an alternate route over 19th Street as the main route to the new homeport. The east-west arterial was mainly a residential street.
