50 YEARS AGO (1960)
The new $755,682 Snohomish Junior High School today was getting a final sprucing up for tomorrow’s open house. Starting in the fall, it would house the district’s seventh- and eighth-graders as well as overflow sixth-graders from Fobes, Swans Trail and Machias schools.
Among the many cute performers who were participating in the 1960 Roller Revue at Skate-Inn in Marysville tonight and tomorrow night were Sally Carpenter, Mary Reogan and Maurie Carfman. A total of 135 skaters would appear in the 20 acts of the “Color Spectacular” each evening.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Everett park officials were looking for additional volunteers to help remodel a Forest Park building to provide another meeting room. It was one of three structures declared surplus and given to the parks department by the Everett School District three years ago, according to assistant park director Jim Shields.
Scott Paper Co.’s Everett plant assumed a key role in the company’s multimillion-dollar drive to mass market its newest product — a smaller paper towel. Cases of ScoTowels Junior — a skinnier version of the traditional 11-inch-wide paper towel — were scheduled to begin rolling out of the Everett plant today.
