50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Thanks to Cub Scout Pack 16, Mukilteo had a totem pole. Boys in the pack carved it out of cedar. It was presented to Mayor Dick Taylor on behalf of the boys by Dr. L.G. Beck, veteran scouter.
More than two dozen teenagers were arrested and more than 100 cars were stopped Saturday and checked Saturday night by state patrol and sheriff’s officers in a massive roadblock in the Silvana area. Patrolman Bruce Hume said that some teens on their way to the dances at Viking Hall were drinking beer.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Everett city officials would play the top role in deciding whether plans for a U.S. Navy base would satisfy state environmental law, members of various regulatory agencies decided. The move meant the city probably would hold a public hearing in a few months to solicit comment about the base’s environmental effects.
Charles Earl was the unanimous choice of the Snohomish County Public Utility District board of commissioners to head up PUD. Currently Earl was the chief administrator for Thurston County. He indicated he would probably accept the offer.
