50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hatloe, who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary recently, were leaving tomorrow for Norway. Hosting a party for their parents were Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hatloe and Mrs. Elaine Holt.
Sparking Chuck Lee Swim School to first place in the Everett Aquatic Club invitational age group swimming meet were Andy LaMar, Nancy Bell, LeRoy Anderson and Leann Johnson, who set a national mark in the 100-yard backstroke.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Tours of four historic row houses built for mill workers in the 1890s and newly restored for rental housing would be conducted this weekend by the Snohomish Historic Society. The one-bedroom houses, dubbed Soapsuds Row, were in the 200 block of Avenue A in the city’s historic and business district.
“Chief John Sultan” would once again look over the confluence of the Sultan and Skykomish rivers. A 12-foot statue, created by Sultan merchant Jerry Carter, would be dedicated on Main Street. The head of the now-extinct Sktahlajum tribe was also known as Sultan John, John Tseuldta and John Hicks, among other names.
