50 YEARS AGO (1960)
John and Rose Margaretich, chiefs in the Naval Reserve here, were on active duty for the next two weeks recruiting for the Reserve. They were the first husband and wife team to be doing so in the area.
Arlington won the sweepstakes honors and Snohomish took two divisional firsts in the annual Rhododendron Festival in Port Townsend. Arlington’s float won top honors overall competition. Snohomish won first in the noncommercial division for floats and first in the decorated car division.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Snohomish County Memorial Day Services would begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Evergreen Cemetery, 4505 Broadway. The Marine Corps ROTC Youth Group from Snohomish High School would present the colors. The program would consist of guest and student speakers from Everett and Cascade high schools.
The site where Lowell founder E.D. Smith built his mill might finally become part of Everett. Smith established the community of Lowell 20 years before Everett was founded in 1892. Later, most of Lowell was annexed into the larger city. The new owners of the mill site asked to be annexed to Everett.
