50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Mari Lana Lervick, Snohomish High School senior, was named girl of the year at the school’s annual awards assembly. The award was based on outstanding service to the school and the Girls’ Club during the year. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Magnar Lervick.
Dean Hegewald received a letter in varsity tennis this spring at Monroe High School. He had lost a leg and an arm in a train accident when he was in junior high. A sophomore now, he played doubles on the team and did an amazing job, according to coach Charles Wickizer.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Pensacola, Fla., a city similar in size to Everett, had something else in common as well. The panhandle port was hoping the US. Navy would assign a new battleship squadron to the Gulf of Mexico as the military bolstered its ability to meet future tasks in this hemisphere.
Lynnwood residents had a chance to comment on a proposed apartment complex that would be among the largest in the city — 270 units in a newly annexed area west of Alderwood mall.
