50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Tomorrow would begin a four-day grand opening of H.O. Seiffert’s Home and Handyman’s Center on Hewitt Avenue east of Broadway. Top officers in the firm were the Sievers brothers, Roy, president; Harold, secretary-treasurer; and John, vice president.
Plumbing Inspector E.O. Dorcy and City Engineer Rodney Colvin looked on as Commissioner of Public Works George Gebert opened the valve directing the flow of sewage into the new lagoon on Smith Island for the first time. Sewage collected from north of 18th Street was now being dumped into the lagoon.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Physics teacher Tom Haff yesterday hurled a container full of eggs from the third floor at Everett High School. The experiment gave students a chance to pack an egg to see if it could withstand such a fall. Haff reported that 70 percent of the students got a “P” for pass, while the rest got a “B” for break.
Office Systems Northwest Inc. at 2800 Pacific Ave. invited the public to an open house to demonstrate the latest advancements in copying technology including magnification, reduction, auto paper selection, auto exposure, two-sided copying, dual paper cassettes and self-diagnostic display.
