50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Appointment of James R. Geary and Lester H. Pierce as sales representatives for New York Life Insurance Co. was announced by Robert Trager, C.L.U., general manager of the Everett general office. Geary and Pierce had completed the company’s initial training program and passed their state license examinations.
Alvin Ross was elected governor of Marysville Lodge No. 1845, Loyal Order of the Moose. Also, 12 new members were enrolled: Biff Spillers, Dick Minnich, Kenneth Kendall, Kenneth Gleason, Dale Lian, Merle Teare, John Wolf, Roger Henson, Jerry O’Brien, William Rovick, Everett Dean and W.L. Kline.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Snohomish County’s first television station might be beaming reruns and movies throughout the Puget Sound area by late summer following approval of a request to build a transmitting tower at Cougar Mountain. Dan O’Brien, general manager of KONG-TV, was happy about the recent decision.
Burlington Northern train crews worked feverishly to right a dozen cars from a grain train that derailed near Stevens Pass, blocking the main east-west line. Freight and Amtrak passengers trains were rerouted through Portland and Pasco as crews worked to clear cars and repair several hundred feet of track.
