50 YEARS AGO (1960)
George Luther of Waupun, Wis., a former resident of Everett, wrote The Herald this week after reading a story in his hometown newspaper about the great Cascade snowslide 50 years ago. At that time, Luther was living here and employed as a streetcar conductor on the Broadway line from Delta and Smelter to Hewitt Avenue.
At a recent meeting of the Camano Legion Auxiliary, Karen Christianson was the Twin City High School girl chosen to go to the Girl’s State program in June at Ellensburg College.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Paul T. Nolan was to replace Kent Foster as new president of General Telephone Co. of the Northwest effective May 1. Nolan was coming from GTE’s corporate office in Stamford, Conn., where he was vice president for regulatory affairs. Foster was going to Stamford to be group vice president.
The Everett Giants announced they had already sold 237 of 352 available season tickets for the 37-game home baseball schedule in 1985. With the season still three months off, they already had sold more season tickets than in all of 1984 (215). The first home game was June 19 against Bellingham.
