50 YEARS AGO (1960)

Although she had lived nearly a century, Emma Schott of Snohomish had only had 23 birthdays. She would celebrate her 24th on Feb. 29. Enjoy life was her secret of longevity.

Melvin Buhr of Troop 6 received his Eagle Scout award from Dr. Charles Mincks. Meanwhile, Cubs in Pack 4 getting awards were Robert Cracker, Bill Nurmi, Russell Wood, Kenneth Cracker, Dave Thompson, Norman Lowery, Kirk Smith, Steve Joncich, Richard Oliveria, Danny Burrows, Robert Weikmeyer, Danny Seat, Billy Bowker, Kenneth Galey, Greg Parker, Alex Gipson, Jimmy Carter, Frank Stout, Mark Kuehn, Charles Stevens, Charles Holzinger and David Smith.

25 YEARS AGO (1985)

The Everett Arts Commission might get some new members, a new chairman and a new set of functions. Mayor Bill Moore was working with commission members to produce an ordinance that would make the commission responsible for promotion and organizing all cultural activities in the city.

A commercial strip featuring office and retail space could be built on three acres of vacant property on the waterfront sometime this year. Port of Everett officials were looking at property between the Everett Chamber of Commerce offices and Steuart’s Seafoods.
