50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Capt. Merlin R. “Boody” Gilbertson, commander of Hq. and Hq. Company 2nd Battle Group, Washington Army National Guard, Everett Armory, received federal recognition of his promotion to the rank of captain. Gilbertson enlisted in the National Guard in Company L and served four years before World War II.
As part of First Federal Savings’ opening of its new facility at Colby and Everett avenues, 14 artists had work on display. Among these were George Hornyak’s oil “Mr. Chips,” Marion Carboneau’s oil “Spring Fantasy,” and Arne Jensen’s watercolor “Owner and Proprietor.”
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
The ninth annual Cattlemen’s Winterschool, sponsored by Washington State University, would be later this month at Everett Pacific Hotel. Among the topics were beef as business, feeding and forages and farm herd management. Mike Hackett, county livestock agent, could be contacted for further information.
Steuart Seafoods at 1520 W. Marine View Dr. (Norton Avenue) advertised the following: fresh clams for $1.25 per pound, white prawns at $9.59 per pound, whole cooked crayfish at $2.99 per pound, oysters in shell for $2.69 a dozen, and fillet of sole for $1.99 per pound.
