50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Larry Hanson wrote about Garfield Playfield at 23rd and Walnut streets in Everett. It would be used by the City-County Softball league for its 1960 and future seasons. They planned to erected a lighted field in the northwest corner of the field.
In Stanwood and East Stanwood a petition was circulating calling for a union of the two towns in northwestern Snohomish County. The push for consolidation came from the need for sewage systems and sewage disposal. Stanwood had about 800 residents and East Stanwood half that.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Frank Reis, customer service director for Snohomish County PUD, was retiring after 19 years of service with PUD and an additional 19 years previously with Pacific Power and Light. He was active in the power field both nationally and in the Pacific Northwest along with many civic activities in the Everett area.
Marion Gowen, manager of safety for PUD, received a best performance award for the utility district’s training achievement in defensive driving, an award given annually by the National Safety Council.
