50 years ago (1960)
Judith Gail Manley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce H. Manley, was one of 50 freshmen women at Washington State University who were honored for high scholarship this week. Fore being among the top 50, Gail received a Mortar Board tassel and commendations during the annual Women’s Day convocation. She made her home at the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
Table settings would be featured at the meeting of Laquilla Garden Club at Fidelity Grange Hall. Included in the program would be motion pictures on birds. Hostesses were Irene Rhoades, Myra Yeakel and Elsie Gemmer.
25 years ago (1985)
David W. Duce, of Everett, a 1984 graduate of Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, Calif., was awarded the first Terry M. Giles honor scholarship as the outstanding third-year student for 1984-85. Duce, who took his bar examination in February, had returned to Everett to begin his law practice with his father, Wesley, in the Everett firm of Duce and Gehret.
Air Force airmen Kenneth L. Catron, of Everett, and Randall S. Sherping, of Lake Stevens, had completed a security police training course at Lackland AFB, Texas.
