50 YEARS AGO (1959)
It was necessary to move Everett’s city limits sign to 62nd Street with the Madison neighborhood voting yesterday to join the city. The addition of about 5,000 to the city on Jan. 1 would push the population to more than 40,000, passing Bellingham and closing in on Yakima.
Clara Cole Johnson was appointed to the position of home service director for Snohomish County PUD, it was announced this week by A.S.J. Steele, manager. Her headquarters were in the PUD electric building on California Street.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Everett was studying a vision to vitalize downtown. One idea was to create a mini-mall out of the outdated buildings along the east side of the 2700 block of Colby Avenue that include Pay ‘n Save Drugs. Once the shopping hub for Snohomish County, downtown had declined over the last decade as competition from regional shopping malls intensified.
Klein Honda, at 5505 Evergreen Way, was having a special grand opening allocation arriving this weekend. There were five new Honda Accord SE-1 four-door sedans in stock ready for immediate delivery.
