50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Flames and heavy smoked poured out of the upper floors of the Chapman Apartments, 3114 Oakes Ave., as Everett firefighters began their attack to control to control the blaze that broke out shortly before noon. The entire south wing of the structure was gutted. This would be the end of the line for the early Everett Summit Hotel building.
A new traffic control light was installed at California Street and Broadway. (It was later removed.) Sgt. Ken McDannald of the Everett Police Department said it was needed as there had been several serious accidents at the intersection the last two years.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Donald Klein was re-elected to serve another three years on the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service County Committee. Alternates named in the mail ballot were Dennis Thomas and Barbara Anderson. Other committee members were Edwin Stocker, chairman, and Reid Carleton.
In November, persons who received VA pensions should have received a computerized income questionnaire card. To aid in filling out the cards and returning them on time, VA pensioners could contact the VFW State Service Office, 2722 Colby Ave.
