50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Winners of the bridge tournament Sunday of Everett Bridge Club were Mark Bailey and R.C. Werner, first; John Nelson and William Briggs, second; Lis Masi and Ted Rall, third; Connie Graef and Ethel Kick, fourth. Everett Bridge Club met every Sunday in the Knights of Columbus Hall. All bridge players were invited to attend the tournament the next Sunday.
Robert A. Herzog Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Herzog of Everett, recently became a member of the Naval Air Reserve at the Seattle Naval Air Station. He would train one weekend a month at NAS Sand Point.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
The top local/regional stories of the year, selected by The Herald staff, were: Navy to come to Everett; Green River killer toll 28; Everett’s tire fire; Neo-Nazi/FBI clash; Gardner elected governor; Abortion clinic arsons; Puget Sound pollution; Baseball Giants in Everett; Fishing controversies; WPPSS lawsuits filed.
Fred Safstrom, manager at Cascade Savings and Loan Association at Ninth and State in Marysville, invited people to come in and discuss home financing before buying or building a home. He could help with their needs.
