50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Soderblom of Swans Trail were observing their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception at Zion Lutheran Church in Everett. They were married in Everett with the Rev. Carl Scott officiating. Their five children, Elvera Johnson, Agnetta Ferdon, Albert, Einar and Frank, all lived in the Everett-Snohomish area.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dodd of Everett were instrumental in rescuing a 2 1/2-year-old girl lost in the desert near Las Vegas. The toddler had apparently wandered from her home 6 miles away.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Snohomish County had agreed to give a south county tourist center $14,000 in return for more say in its operation and a promise to move the operation. This was a major victory for organizers of the Visitors Information Center, which succeeded in getting nearly half of the $30,000 budget. It was currently located on 164th Street.
The Cascade League’s No. 2 playoff team was still in the dark today because a power failure forced postponement of the Sultan vs. Lakewood high school football game last night. Both teams had a 5-3 league record, so a victory by either would automatically clinch the league’s second playoff spot.
