50 YEARS AGO (1959)
When Kirk Benson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Benson, got a Lionel train for Christmas, nothing would do but that he got to go down to the railroad yards and get some pointers on its operation from the men who manned the big trains. David DiRe of the Milwaukee Road gave him pointers and demonstrated how to lubricate the wheels on his train.
Welcoming their daughter, Maryann, home from nursing school for Christmas vacation, Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Robbins gave a dinner-dance at their Tyee Road home. Attending were other student nurses and their escorts from Everett, Seattle, Tacoma, Pullman and Walla Walla
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Looking forward to beginning the New Year on retirement was dermatologist Dr. George Youngstrom, who ended his 34-year practice at his office at 34th Street and Colby Avenue in Everett. He said he planned to keep busy catching up on a lot of things.
Senior citizens who lived in Fire District 11 could have free smoke detectors installed by Flame Chasers, a community service organization made up of the district’s firefighters. District 11 covered the large area lying generally south of Everett and west of Paine Field.
