50 YEARS AGO (1959)
New to the faculty of Everett High School were George Hollenback, industrial arts; Verner Torvea, biology; George Fratzke, English; Marilyn Anderson, librarian; Ruth Dodge, foreign language; Lawrence Gibson, chemistry; Bert Slater, mathematics; Leonard Gurian, commercial; Helen Docka, English; Susan Post, commercial; Le Deane V. Tate, art, and Neal Bartlett, physical education.
Co-captain Jim Lambright was practicing blocking with letterman tackle Chuck Tripp during an Everett High School football workout. The solidly built senior halfback could be expected to open a path for his teammates when the Gulls opened their season Sept. 18 at Bellingham.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
The most popular visitor to the just-completed Evergreen State Fair was sunshine, which put in more appearances than anyone could recall for the past several years. Excellent weather and lots of improvements combined to produce one of the best-ever fairs.
Three county 4-H Club members were named state winners and were advancing to competition at the national 4-H Congress in Chicago. They were Kimberly Casey, Stanwood, swine achievement; Susan Halladay, Silvana, health, and Helen Carpenter, Lynnwood, foods and nutrition.
