50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Karl Holt, processor control engineer for Scott Paper Co. in Everett, was appointed technical control director for Westminster Paper Co. in British Columbia. A graduate of the University of Washington, Holt worked previously for Soundview Pulp Co. until its merger with Scott in 1951.
Grace Lutheran Church, at Holly Drive and E. Casino Road south of Everett, was the area’s newest church and would be dedicated this Sunday. The Rev. Walter Sylwester was pastor of Grace, a daughter congregation of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Everett.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Stan Echelbarger, who served as chairman of the fair board, was back in his public address announcement post. “Thank you for keeping your fair clean and green,” was his trademark. Department superintendent Bonnie Swinney said canning entries were down because of a shorter growing season, and department superintendent Leona Naff noted there were fewer produce entries.
Lynnwood City Council gave the green light for the city’s tallest buildings — six stories high. Developers said the $15 million Fisher Business Center would be a “jewel in the neighborhood” and a trend-setter for later south Snohomish County developers to emulate.
