Nothing says summer like an outdoor festival. Around here, festivals are in high supply. This weekend is no exception.
What: Live music and dance, arts and crafts, fine art, food, theater and storytelling
When: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Where: Shoreline Center, 18560 First Ave. NE, Shoreline Information: 206-417-4645, www.shorelinearts.net. |
The Shoreline Arts Festival returns for two days of entertainment, live theatrical performances and, of course, art.
Visitors to the 15th annual event Saturday and Sunday can view works at juried art and photography shows for adults and students, watch artists create new works and participate in hands-on demonstrations. There is also a used-book sale and food booths.
The Literature Live! Room features writing contests, storytelling and readings from literary contest winners. Open mikes invite visitors to read on stage.
At 1 and 5 p.m. Saturday in the auditorium, Missoula Children’s Theatre presents “Jack and the Beanstalk,” performed by more than 50 local students. Also on Saturday, Janet Raynor dances on stilts. On Sunday, the Cascade Youth Symphony performs and family entertainer Thaddeus creates geometric-shaped bubbles.
Ongoing events at the festival include demonstrations by Korean and fiber artists, the Lake2Sound Film Festival and Shoreline Phillipine Festival.
Additional activities include the creative Lego building room, artist-in-residence project displays and a senior center breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to noon each day.
View works by more than 70 crafters. Handcrafted items include baskets, wood-turned bowls and hand-painted ceramic tiles.
Youth, senior and cultural groups perform live on two stages during the festival. The Shoreline room hosts cultural dance groups performing traditional dances of Finland, Ireland and Mexico, along with the Philippines, Korea and Alaska. The Showmobile stage hosts live music, karaoke and a bagpipe salute.
