Consider it a sort of family camping orientation. It’s the Great American Backyard Campout at Silver Lake on Saturday and Sunday.
Everett Parks and Recreation teams up with REI for this weekend under the stars. Families can pitch their tents or build a shelter, find out about Dutch oven cooking, learn to build a campfire (gotta have s’mores), and take part in a program around the campfire.
Bring your own camping gear and something to put on the grill for dinner. A limited number of tents and sleeping bags will be on hand to borrow, first come, first served. Don’t worry about breakfast. A free meal will be waiting when you roll out of your tent.
The campout takes place at Thornton A. Sullivan Park, 11405 W. Silver Lake Road, Everett.
The cost is $15 for a five-person family or $5 per individual. Registration is required by calling 425-257-8300, ext. 2.
