Smelly, slimey and scary stuff that people go gaga over

1. Doo

Woodland Park Zoo’s exciting Fecal Fest has started.

The zoo’s animals produces great manure, and the staff is willing to share it. It is so prized people have to enter a lottery.

Through Sept. 10, enter online to win the chance to buy Zoo Doo, highly coveted compost, and Bedspread, a composted mulch. Entries will be randomly selected according to supply and demand.

Zoo Doo is available by the bucket in 5 gallons ($5) to 55 gallons ($30) and also by the truck load for $50 to $80. Bedspread is by the truck load only, $40 to $60.

Winners will be notified to pick up the poo Sept. 23 through Oct. 14.

Pints of Worm Doo, worm castings made from Zoo Doo and coffee grounds, $10, are available at zoo stores.

More at https://zoo.org/fecalfest or by calling 206-625-POOP (7667).

2. Goo

The gushy and oozy fun of slime started 40 years as a toy sold in a plastic trash can.

It’s made a huge comeback. Google “make slime” and there are 36 million results. To make it, all you need is glue, borax or laundry detergent. Or you can buy a Nickelodeon slime kit at Toys R Us. Or head to the farmers market and buy it from enterprising tweens selling slime with scents such as peanut butter, mint chocolate chip and mixed berry.

That might sound good enough to eat … but don’t.

3. Boo

It’s about two months until Halloween, which falls on a Tuesday this year.

Stores are already stocking costumes for kids, adults, cats and dogs. A check online shows a lot of superheroes, “Game of Thrones” characters and Harley Quinns. Last year, Trump was hot. This year, not so much.

It may not be a real shell, but this art nouveau piece could still evoke fond memories of days at the beach.
