Weir, the bestselling author of “The Martian,” will talk about his new book “Artemis” with Seattle’s own sci-fi writer Neal Stephenson. Ticket required. Price of $30 includes a book and admission. Store is at Lake Forest Park Town Center, 17171 Bothell Way NE, Seattle.

1 p.m. Dec. 9, University Book Store, Mill Creek

An ordained minister, professor, pilot, outdoorsman and writer, Schoenhals shares an inspiring collection of stories from his life in his new book “Hikes, Flights and Lookout Stories.” These tales cover a grueling 50-mile hike on the West Coast Trail of Vancouver Island, a near-accident in a float plane on Quilcene Bay and a fire inside a fire lookout station during a lightning storm.
