“The Sound of Music”: Shoreline is about to come alive with the sound of music when the King’s Players present their version of the family classic, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music.”
Producer Jamie Miller called the show fantastic and one you’ll want to see more than once as Capt. von Trapp, the von Trapp children and their lively nanny, Maria, discover devotion and love against the backdrop of the rising Nazi threat.
“The Sound of Music” opens at 8 p.m. Saturday at Shorecrest Performing Arts Center, 15343 25th Ave., NE, Shoreline. Performances are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through April 5. Tickets are $15 and $20. Go to www.kingsplayerstheater.org.

“Taylor 2” dancers will perform at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, 565 Camano Ave., Langley. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for youths by calling 800-638-7631, or 360-221-8268 or going to www.wicaonline.com.
Back in the 1950s, Martha Graham dubbed Taylor the “naughty boy” of dance. Today his avant-garde works are known for memorably setting movement to music. He remains among the most sought-after choreographers working today, according to the WICA Web site.
A swimmer and a student of Juilliard, Taylor joined the Martha Graham Dance Co. in 1955. He branched out on his own and gained fame setting dances to ragtime and reggae, tango and Tin Pan Alley, telephone time announcements and loon calls. He turned supermarket music and novelty tunes into high art.
In 1993, Taylor formed Taylor 2, which brings many of the choreographer’s masterworks to smaller venues around the world.
