Guided forest walk: Learn about plant communication during a naturalist-guided forest walk from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Yost Park, 9535 Bowdoin Way, Edmonds.

The Edmonds Parks and Recreation sponsored event costs $5. Registration is required.

Book signings, workshops: Debra Prinzing will sign copies of her book, “The Abundant Garden: A Celebration of Color, Texture and Blooms” at two upcoming events.

She will demonstrate techniques from her book, followed by a signing, at 11 a.m. Saturday at Swanson’s Nursery, 9701 15th Ave. NW, Seattle.

At 7 p.m. Monday, Prinzing will speak at the Snohomish Garden Club’s monthly meeting in the Performing Arts Center at Snohomish High School, 1316 Fifth St., Snohomish.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase at both events. Both events are free and open to the public.

Master gardener training: The Washington State University Extension is accepting applications for training in its master gardener program.

The program is taught by faculty, staff and volunteers and is more than 60 hours. Classes begin Jan. 5 and meet Thursdays and two Saturday through March 11.

For information, send a legal-sized, self-addressed stamped envelope with 60 cents postage to WSU Extension Master Gardener, 600 128th St. SE, Everett, WA 98209.

Applications must be received by Oct. 31.

Horticulture basics: Washington State University Master Gardener program presents Horticulture Basics, a series of classes for people who work in the green industry and want to increase their horticulture knowledge. Classes are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 5 through March 11.

The fee is $300 and includes training materials. Registration is required.

Applications can be picked up at the Snohomish County Extension office, 600 128th St. SE, Everett, or downloaded at www.snohomish.wsu.edu.

Deadline for applying is Oct. 31.

Van Valey classes: Everett Parks and Recreation is offering eight gardening classes at the Van Valey House this fall.

Classes are from 7 to 8 p.m. and cost $10, unless otherwise noted. Registration required.

The Van Valey House is at 2130 Colby Ave., Everett.

Seattle Home Show 2: Learn from the professionals at the seventh annual Seattle Home Show 2.

The show brings building, landscaping and remodeling professionals together for four days filled with exhibits, demonstrations and seminars. Nearly 500 exhibitors display home and garden ideas, including interior design and remodeling, landscaping and outdoor entertaining.

The Seattle Home Show 2 is open from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $9, $6 seniors, $3 ages 7 through 15.
