In brief
Garden workshops: The Arlington Garden Club sponsors a series of workshops for the public.
“How to turn your thumb green” series teaches fall and winter gardening tips, tricks and fundamentals. The three-part series includes a class about vegetable gardening, container gardening and winterizing. Each class is taught by a Snohomish County master gardener.
Workshops are held 10 to 11:30 a.m. the second Saturday of the month in the community room of the Boys and Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE, Arlington. On Saturday, the final class in the series is “Winterizing Your Garden” with Wink Cushman. Learn how to put gardens to bed for the winter and find out what to do now to save time in the spring.
Registration recommended. Call Linda at 360-403-7769.
Holiday homes: Designers Bob Pranga and Debi Staron, known for designing holiday settings for celebrities such as Whoopi Goldberg, Shaquille O’Neal and Leeza Gibbons, will be promoting their new book, “Christmas Style,” in Everett Sunday.
Pranga and Staron will sign the book, answer questions, demonstrate tree trimming and answer questions at Display &Costume, 5209 Evergreen Way. Call 425-353-3364.
They will also make a presentation Saturday, at Swanson’s Nursery in Seattle, 9701 15th Ave. NW. Call 206-782-2543.
“Christmas Style” ($29.95) is filled with photographs of holiday theme settings – from traditional to contemporary – and instructions on how to re-create each look.
Forcing time: Start amaryllis and paperwhite narcissus bulbs over the next two weeks for blooms during the holidays. Water sparingly until shoots emerge. The stems will need staking with canes or other props to avoid flopping.
