Maltby Meaningful Movies: “Before the Flood” is showing at 6 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Sharingwood Condominiums, 22105 East Lost Lake Road, Snohomish. In the documentary, actor Leonardo DiCaprio talks with scientists, activists and world leaders about the dangers of climate change and possible solutions. Sunday Films at the Library: Watch “After the Storm” from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave. A struggling novelist, now working as a private detective under the pretense of doing research, attempts to reconcile with his aging mother, ex-wife and 11-year-old son. As a typhoon passes, they end up spending the night together in his mother’s Tokyo apartment, but things don’t go particularly well for this fractured family. In Japanese with English subtitles. Everett Meaningful Movies: “We the People 2.0” is showing at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 215 Mukilteo Blvd., Everett. This film explores the work of the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund, which helps people protect themselves against pollution, environmental damage and other hazards by writing community home rule charters spelling out citizens’ rights, community rights and the rights of nature. Edmonds Center for the Arts: A free screening of “The Story of Fascism in Europe,” a movie by Rick Steves, host of the travel TV show “Rick Steves’ Europe,” is scheduled at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds. The screening will be followed by a discussion and question and answer session with Steves. The event is free but registration is required. Throwback Thursdays: Free movies on the third Thursday of the month at the Edmonds Theater, 415 Main St., Edmonds; 425-672-9366. Silent Movie and Pipe Organ Night: 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2, Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave. “The Shock,” a 1923 film about a gangster and the underworld, and starring an actor that graced the Everett stage at one time, Lon Chaney. A crime boss sends a gangster to San Francisco to expose a banker they have been blackmailing. However, the gangster meets and falls in love with the banker’s daughter. Tickets are $17.
