Special film showings around Snohomish County

Reel World Cinema: Free Movie Fridays twice monthly in the Calvin Lounge at First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller Ave., Everett. Potluck at 6 p.m. Movie at 7 p.m. Discussion follows. The current theme is “Demagoguery and Democracy: Corrupted Truth and Manipulative Politics in American Cinema, 1930–1970.” On Oct. 13, see Orson Wells’ 1942 film “Citizen Kane,” which some say is the best movie ever made.

Everett Meaningful Movies: Free showing of “The Hunting Ground” is set for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at Sanctuary Covenant Church, 4502 Rucker Ave., Everett. Refreshments served at 6 p.m. The film is an expose of rape crimes on U.S. campuses and follows survivors as they pursue their education while fighting for justice. From the team that produced “The Invisible War.” After the screening, a representative from Providence Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse will lead a discussion. Also sponsored by Everett United Church of Christ, Evergreen Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and KSER radio.

“HEAL”: The new feature documentary will be screened at 6 p.m. Oct. 14 at Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island. Director Kelly Noonan Gores’ documentary examines the idea that our thoughts, beliefs and emotions have a big impact on our health and ability to heal.

Scary Movie Night: Hosted by artist Ruben Trujillo and Black Lab Gallery, the event is 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the gallery, 1618 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Admission is $5, with $2 for popcorn.

The Anderson School Theater: “Blade Runner 2049” plays at noon, 4 p.m and 8 p.m. through Oct. 19; 18607 Bothell Way NE, Bothell; www.mcmenamins.com/anderson-school-theater.

“Fiddler on the Roof”: The 1971 movie will be shown at 10 a.m. Oct. 21 at Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds. The showing is part of the center’s series for people with dementia, but anyone, especially children, can attend. Tickets are $10, with discounts for low-income seniors and families. Diversity Film Series: The city of Edmonds’ Diversity Commission has announced it inaugural series. The free screenings will be at noon on third Saturdays in October, November, January, February, March and April at the Edmonds Theater, 415 Main St. Arrive 15 minutes early. First up, on Oct. 21, is “Somewhere Between,” a chronicle of the lives of four Chinese girls adopted by American families and their coming-of-age struggles as they find themselves somewhere between typical American teens and natives of a land that is familiar, yet alien to them. Edmonds Center for the Arts Film Cabaret Series: The series opens Oct. 27 with Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 flick “The Birds,” the story of a northern California coastal town dealing with the onslaught of seemingly unexplained, arbitrary and chaotic attacks by ordinary birds. The cabaret entertainment that night is by Marina and the Dreamboats. The series continues Jan. 12 with “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” from 2000 and the Warren G. Hardings band. On March 15, see the 1999 film “The Buena Vista Social Club” with music by Alma y Azucar. On April 26, see “Breakfast at Tiffany’s from 1961 with the Jake Bergevin Quartet. Cabaret starts at 6:30 p.m. with film screenings at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15, or $10 for just the movie. More at www.edmondscenterforthearts.org.
