Special film showings around Snohomish County

Reel World Cinema: Free Movie Fridays twice monthly in the Calvin Lounge at First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller Ave., Everett. Potluck at 6 p.m. Movie at 7 p.m. Discussion follows. The current theme is “Demagoguery and Democracy: Corrupted Truth and Manipulative Politics in American Cinema, 1930–1970.” On Oct. 27, see George Cukor’s 1943 film “Keeper of the Flame” starring Spencer Tracy as a reporter who wants to write biography of a war hero and Katherine Hepburn as the hero’s widow.

Diversity Film Series: The city of Edmonds’ Diversity Commission has announced it inaugural series. The free screenings will be at noon on third Saturdays in November, January, February, March and April at the Edmonds Theater, 415 Main St. Arrive 15 minutes early. Edmonds Center for the Arts Film Cabaret Series: The series opens Oct. 27 with Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 flick “The Birds,” the story of a northern California coastal town dealing with the onslaught of seemingly unexplained, arbitrary and chaotic attacks by ordinary birds. The cabaret entertainment that night is by Marina and the Dreamboats. The series continues Jan. 12 with “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” from 2000 and the Warren G. Hardings band. On March 15, see the 1999 film “The Buena Vista Social Club” with music by Alma y Azucar. On April 26, see “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” from 1961 with the Jake Bergevin Quartet. Cabaret starts at 6:30 p.m. with film screenings at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15, or $10 for just the movie. More at www.edmondscenterforthearts.org.

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show”: The annual showing at the Lincoln Theatre, 712 S. First St., Mount Vernon, is set for 8 p.m. Oct. 28. Call 360-336-8955 for ticket information. More at www.lincolntheatre.org/film/rocky-horror-picture-show.

“Steamboat Bill Jr.”: The Buster Keaton silent movie will be shown free at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave., Everett. The screening celebrates the 116th birthday of the theater. Sharon Stearnes will plays the Kimball Pipe Organ.

Sno-King Meaningful Movies: “Time to Choose,” a film by Charles Ferguson about how individuals can change the threat of climate change, will be shown at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 8109 224th St. SW, Edmonds.

Wandering Reel Traveling Film Festival: The festival on wheels returns to the Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 with five films. Admission is $10. More at www.wanderingreel.org/tour-schedule.
